Organic seedling of Blackcurrant 'Black Marble®'
Ribes nigrum
Ripening: very early, one of the earliest blackcurrant varieties
Fruit: by far the largest blackcurrant in our range, and probably among the largest worldwide; borne in short clusters of 2–4 berries, often exceeding 1 cm in diameter
Harvest: with this variety, entire clusters are no longer picked – instead, the berries are harvested individually straight from the bush… if any are left by the time you reach the kitchen!
Flavour: mild, sweet and juicy; perfect for eating berry by berry. Just one or two berries are enough for a full flavour experience: the jelly-like flesh melts instantly in the mouth with barely noticeable seeds, revealing the rich, fruity character of blackcurrants
Growth / Health: ‘Black Marble’ grows very healthily, is resistant to powdery mildew and shows little to no leaf drop. Its foliage remains attractive into autumn, although slightly lighter in colour than other varieties
Origin of the variety: Lubera
