Seedling, Zucchini, Sultan
Cucurbita pepo
For enchanting oriental dishes, this tender, light-green, and shiny zucchini presents the best choice. It is pleasing to the eye, mouth watering, and unmatched in flavour. It is normally harvested small at about 8–12 cm, but can be harvested larger at 25 cm for stuffing while it is still bright green. This variety is great for a family garden, but really shines at farmers market on fresh produce displays.

Sow from mid-April as single seeds in 10-cm pots at about 20º C. Lightly cover seeds with loose soil or sand and keep moist. Transplant into the field from May 20th at the foot of the compost pile or in nutrient-rich soil. (Beware of slug damage!) Keep free from frost. Space individual plants at 80–100 cm on all sides. Mulch is beneficial.
